Children under canine attacks: Another minor girl mauled by stray dogs; incident caught on cam

In a fresh case of distressing canine attack, a pack of stray dogs attacked and dragged a girl in Karnataka’s Koppal. The frightening incident was caught on CCTV camera in which the dogs can be seen attacking, dragging and biting the young girl.

The incident occurred near Rayara Mutt in Koppal City. Luckily, passersby came to the rescue of the girl and saved her life. 

However, the growing number of dog attacks in the country has triggered concern. India reported nearly 16 million cases of stray dog bites between 2019 and 2022 (Parliament data till Nov 2022), an average of over 10,000 cases daily.

Even as there are several reasons behind the rise in dog menace, it has become a matter of serious concern. Let’s take a look at some of the most brutal dog attacks in recent days.

Cases of recent dog bite incidents:

8-yr-old in Kerala: The little girl identified as Jhanvi was mauled by street dogs at her house in Kannur district. Luckily, locals rushed to her rescue after hearing her screams. She suffered injuries to her hands and legs and was admitted to a hospital.

11-yr-old autistic boy: An 11-year-old autistic boy, Nihal was killed after being attacked by a pack of dogs on June 11 in Muzhappilangad. He was taken to a hospital after the dog attack where he succumbed to his injuries. Irate over the incident, Kerala minister had stated that he would approach the Supreme Court again and seek permission to kill stray dogs which pose a threat to human life.

Children attacked in school: Earlier, a PTI had highlighted how a stray dog had attacked children outside their school in Kollam district. The video showed the street dog randomly pouncing on the school children and biting one of them. The dog then ran away after other students pelted stones and bags at it.

5-yr-old girl mauled: A five and a half years old girl was mauled to death by stray dogs in Chhattisgarh’s Koriya district. The girl had gone to a shop to buy snacks when she was attacked by dogs. She was taken to the district hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Dog attack in UP: A 12-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in CB Ganj in UP’s Bareilly. Another child was also injured in the attack. The incident occurred while the boy, Ayaan, was playing with his friends. Although Ayaan ran for his life after stray dogs went after him, he fell down on the ground, following which the dogs pounced on him.

3-year-old killed in UP: In UP’s Aligarh, a three-month-old infant was mauled to death by a stray dog when her family was attending a wedding near their house. 

7-year-old mauled to death: In Moradabad’s Bilari, a seven-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs when he had gone out with his sister to serve tea to his father.
