Ratan Tata, India's visionary and compassionate industrialist, passed away on Wednesday evening, leaving behind an indelible legacy that spans beyond business. He remains one of the most influential, prestigious and loved personalities in the country. His sudden demise has left the entire country in shock and Bharat lost its 'True Ratna'.

Early Life

Born on December 28, 1937, in the illustrious Tata family, Ratan Tata carried forward the remarkable legacy of the Tata Group, which remains one of the largest and most prestigious conglomerates. He elevated the standards to global heights with his humility and wisdom.

Ratan Tata graduated from Cornell University (1962) with a degree in Architecture. Then after, he attended Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Programme in 1975.

The Expansion of the Tata Group

He joined the Tata Group in 1962 and became the Chairman of Tata Industries in 1981. Between 1991-2012, Ratan Tata transformed the Tata Group into a Global Entity. During his tenure as the Chairman of Tata Industries, he spearheaded one of the most significant industrial transformations in the country. 

His strategic acquisitions of Jaguar Land Rover and Corus Steel ensured that Indian enterprises could compete on the global platform.

Under his leadership, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) emerged as a beacon of technological excellence. Furthermore, Tata Motors also created a revolution in the sector with the introduction of the world's most affordable car.

The Rich Legacy of Ratan Tata

Ratan Tata's rich legacy is not defined by his wealth of corporate success. He was a rare industrialist who prioritized the well-being of people. Apart from championing ethical business practices, human rights and sustainable development, he remains unparalleled for his philanthropic contributions.

Philanthropic Contributions

Through Tata Trusts, Ratan Tata directed more than two-thirds of his earnings to public causes. He donated around 60-65 per cent of his income to charity. With his charity, he supported education, healthcare, rural development and women empowerment.

His life reflected the principles of compassion, innovation and relentless pursuit of excellence. All these attributes made him the 'True Ratna' of Bharat that the country has ever witnessed. More than a businessman, he was a statesman of humanity who aimed for a better tomorrow for the country.

He never actively sought any accolades. However, his active contributions to the country's development deserve the highest recognition.

Ratan Tata During Crisis

Be it natural disasters or the horrific 26/11 Mumbai attack, Ratan Tata stood by the citizens of India. From leading the relief efforts to ensuring proper care of the affected, Ratan Tata remained a beacon of hope and a symbol of dignity during different crises.

Awards & Recognition

In 2008, Ratan Tata was honoured with Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award. Moreover, he was honoured with several other awards including Honorary Doctorates from several institutions.

Personal Life

Ratan Tata remained unmarried throughout his life and was devoted to his work and philanthropy. He was passionate about cars, photography and flying. Above all, his love for animals is truly inspiring. He remained associated with animal welfare for a long time. He supported various initiatives to improve animal lives. Be it Tata Animal Hospital or wildlife conservation, he ensured free medical care to stray animals and also partnered with different organizations to protect endangered wildlife species.

Animal Lover Ratan Tata

He also had a personal connection with animals. While he is known for his affection towards dogs and shares pictures with his pet dogs, he has also been spotted feeding and caring for stray animals near his residence. 

Ratan Tata also instructed the management of the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai to keep its doors open for stray animals, especially during heavy rainfall or extreme weather conditions. This journey started in 2015 when a severe rainstorm hit Mumbai leaving many stray animals seeking shelter. The man of wisdom instructed his hotel staff to welcome these animals and provide them with food, water and shelter. This initiative inspired several other hotels and establishments to adopt similar policies. Ratan Tata also supported several animal rescue centres.

Bharat Mourns the loss of its 'True Ratna'

India mourns the loss of Ratan Tata. People will remember him as a man whose heart beat for the country. His life work will continue to inspire generations to come. 

In true essence, Ratan Tata was a jewel (Ratna) of the nation and his demise has left a void. It's an irreparable loss for the entire nation and the citizens.
