The Budget Session of Parliament began today with the address of President Droupadi Murmu to the joint sitting of both Houses, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. While recounting her government’s achievements, Murmu said several dreams of Indians have been fulfilled in the last few years.

"Construction of Ayodhya Ram Temple was a dream for centuries, but that dream has been fulfilled now. People also wanted abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. Now, Article 370 is also history," said President Murmu.

Hailing the government for its people-centric initiatives, she said ‘initiatives like Make in India, Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Digital India are our strengths now’. Despite serious crises across the globe, India emerged as a major economy. India's growth rate remains over 7.5% in two consecutive quarters, said the President.

"The achievements that we witness today are the extension of the practices of the last 10 years. We heard the slogan of 'Gareebi Hatao' since our childhood. Today, for the first time in our lives, we see poverty being alleviated on a large scale," she said.

“Despite the global crises, my government kept inflation under control in the country and did not allow the burden of the common people to increase. If we look at various dimensions of the economy today, the confidence increases that India is in the right direction and is moving forward by making the right decisions,” she stated.

President Murmu also hailed the rapid development of Indian Railways and said that it will soon achieve the target of 100% electrification. She also stated that 39 Vande Bharat trains are presently running across India.

On February 1, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget in the Parliament.
