The Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is a government programme aimed at improving access to financial services for the people of the country.

These services encompass basic banking facilities, fund transfers, lending, insurance coverage, and pension provisions for individuals in their later years.

The programme strives to ensure the affordability of these services for all.

Individuals without pre-existing bank accounts have the opportunity to open a simplified bank account under this initiative.

Account initiation can be carried out at a bank branch or other designated outlets partnered with the bank.

Today marks the ninth anniversary since the inception of the PMJDY program, which has yielded positive outcomes.

To commemorate this occasion, the government utilised the DD News platform on a platform known as X to spotlight the financial services provided by the program.

Notably, the PMJDY program has undergone service enhancements, with these updates being disseminated on the X platform.

Upon opening a PMJDY account, there is no requirement to maintain a specific account balance.

Account holders are also issued a complimentary RuPay debit card and benefit from accidental insurance coverage of up to Rs 2 lakh.

Furthermore, users can avail an overdraft facility of up to Rs 10,000 from the bank.

This program extends financial services to all adult citizens of India.

The JanDhan-Aadhar-Mobile (JAM) Trinity facilitates direct transfers of funds to bank accounts, enhancing transparency and curbing corruption.

Debit cards issued under this program can be utilised for digital transactions.

According to reports, the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna has resulted in the opening of over 50 crore accounts, signifying a significant milestone for the government.

Notably, 55.5% of account holders are women, a crucial step towards ensuring equal opportunities for all.
