One person lost his life while as many as two others had to sustain injuries after facing the wrath of public over suspicion of practicing witchcraft.

Locals of Ramayapali village under Chamakhandi police limits in Ganjam district reportedly thrashed a group of people on charges of practicing sorcery.

As per sources, N Venkat Raman, a resident of Ankuli Subas Nagar in Berhampur died during the attack while two others were left with wounds. They have been shifted to Berhampur MKCG Hospital for treatment.

Family members of the deceased have alleged that the villagers barged into a house where Venkat was performing some puja with others and attacked them.

Police said as many as 14 people have been detained for interrogation in connection with the incident. “Prima facie shows the involvement of the people put into custody. A case has been registered and very soon the accused will be forwarded to court after arrest,” said Thakur Prasad Patra, ASP, Ganjam.
