Youth Goes Missing After Jumping Into Mahanadi In Suicide Bid, Search Operations On

A youth in his mid-twenties went missing after he reportedly jumped into river Mahanadi in an apparent suicide bid from Sidhamula bridge under Kanpur police station in Cuttack on Friday.

Fire Service personnel from Narsinghpur and Kanpur have launched a massive search operation to rescue the missing youth. The identity of the youth and the reason behind his suicide attempt are yet to be ascertained.

As per reports, the youth reached near the bridge by riding a bicycle. He parked the cycle on the bridge and suddenly jumped into the river at around 9 am.

Some local residents spotted the youth jumping into the river and contacted the fire brigade personnel immediately. Fire Service personnel from Narsinghpur and Kanpur rushed to the spot and started search operations to trace the youth.

“The youth was around 25 years of age. We have no clue about his whereabouts. We spotted him jumping into the river all of a sudden. Subsequently we called the fire brigade personnel. We wish him to be safe and rescued soon. We have no knowledge why he attempted suicide,” said a villager.
