Passengers travelling in Yesvanthpur-Howrah Duronto Express on Friday had a close shave after one bogie of the train derailed near Haridaspur railway station in Odisha’s Jajpur district.

As per preliminary reports, two front wheels of the parcel van of the Yesvanthpur-Howrah Duronto Express jumped the tracks near the station. Sources said that apart from the generator car coach, no further damage has been reported in the incident. However, traffic on the route has been affected.

“We heard a loud noise and the train stopped. Later we came to know that a coach of the train has derailed,” said a passenger travelling from Vijayawada.

The passenger further said that since the movement of trains has been halted on the route, there is no clarity on whether the services will resume and they will reach their destination.

Senior Railway officials, on the other hand, said the affected coach is next to the engine. There is no injury and causality and all passengers are safe. All passenger coaches will be connected with another engine and the train will be sent to its destination,” an official release read.

Senior officials further said that the incident will not affect the movement of train services on the Kharagpur – Bhubaneswar mainline. The restoration of the affected coaches will be done with immediate effect.

Divisional Railway Manager, Khordha Road along with a high level official’s team with ART reached the spot for an inquiry into the derailment of the affected Parcel Van.
