A group of woman reportedly jumped in front of the vehicle of the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha seeking justice for a woman who had allegedly been murdered by her in-laws a couple of months ago at Belaghara in Kandhamal district, on Wednesday.

As per reports, Odisha DGP Abhay was on a visit to Belaghara in Kandhamal district on Wednesday. While returning from a police station, a group of women, along with some others, came in front of the DGP’s vehicle in a bid to personally convey their grievances.

The protestors accompanied a woman whose daughter was allegedly killed by her in-laws two months back. She alleged that the Belaghara police are yet to arrest the main culprits even after repeated complaints were lodged by the family members of the deceased.

Reports stated the protestors resorted to blocking the top cop’s vehicle after they were denied an audience with the former to air their grievances.

"More than one and a half months have passed since our daughter had been killed by her in-laws. The police here are not arresting those involved in the crime. Out of the seven accused, the police have so far managed to arrest two while the others have been let off," alleged Sarat Desinayak, a complainant.

He further alleged that the police were not taking any action against the accused and which smacks of a deliberate ploy to either shield the accused or gross negligence of duty.

"I told them (police) several times that daughter had been killed by her in-laws. But they are yet to arrest the real culprits. Instead, they told me to have patience and assured me to take action within a week," said Hirabati Desinayak, another complainant.
