A day after Sub-Inspector Swagatika Behera was found dead at her official quarters in G Udaygiri, her family members on Sunday staged a demonstration in front of police station demanding justice.
Braving the rain, the kin of the deceased Sub-Inspector took out a rally from Gandhi Chhak and sat on dharna in front of the police station at G Udaygiri.
Earlier, the family members of deceased Swagatika had filed a complaint against Inspector-in-charge (IIC) of G Udaygiri police station, Rebati Sabar. Swagatika’s mother met SDPO and accused the IIC of mentally harassing and torturing her daughter.
The family, demanding action against the concerned IIC, have threatened to continue their agitation till action is taken against the IIC.
“My daughter was not happy and she used to cry and narrate us about the harassment and torture she was subjected to by the IIC whenever we used to talk with her over phone,” alleged the deceased Sub-Inspector’s mother.
The SI's brother Manoranjan Behera said, “Swagatika had been complaining about the torture and harassment caused by the IIC. She used to cry as she was intentionally being harassed by the IIC who also used to verbally abuse her.”
Manoranjan further said that the police personnel had removed the body of her sister in the absence of any magistrate or family members. Meanwhile, the concerned IIC Rebati Sabar could not be contacted over the allegations levelled by deceased Swagatika’s family members.
D.Tirupati ,SDPO, G Udaygiri said, "The mother of the Swagatika has registered a complaint and we will conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.”
