Dhenkanal: A woman procurement inspector was allegedly attacked by a miller at the district civil supply office on Tuesday after the former denied procuring substandard rice.

According to sources, a rice-laden truck from a local rice mill- BDN reached the district civil supply office. During inspection, the lady procurement officer found the rice is of substandard quality and denied to procure it.

Irate over this, the rice miller identified as Nirakar Nayak attacked the lady officer and other staff present at the office, sources added.

“A local miller came to the office with poor quality rice. When I denied procuring it, he in an inebriated state, attacked me and broke my phone. He also used derogatory languages against me in front of the staff,” alleged Lopamudra Dhal, Procurement Inspector, Supplies department.

“An FIR has been lodged in connection with the attack on our staff. I hope the law will take its own course and stringent action will be taken against the accused,” said Nirod Ranjan Mishra, Dhenkanal Supplies Officer.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation after a complaint in this regard was lodged at the Town police station.
