Definition of junk food varies from person to person, but everyone agrees it’s not the healthiest thing for anyone. Gone are the days when people were crazy for junk food. However, rising awareness about the need to improve lifestyles has led to increased consumption of healthier alternatives such as finger millet tea. The antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant properties of this variety of tea address several health issues ranging from bad breath to blood pressure which is why finger millet tea has got a place in the daily menu of health-conscious people. Of late, finger millet has become source of income for Jeypore couple who make tea and snacks out of it. 

Lemon tea, milk tea and red tea are very much known among tea lovers. Have you ever tasted finger millet tea? Though it sounds strange, it is available at Parabeda, Jeypore in Koraput district. Tea shop Jagganath Millet Hub has carved an identity for itself by offering finger millet tea for tea lovers. Jagannath Chinari, the owner of  Jagannath Millet Hub has become famous for preparing tea made of finger millet. Be it morning, evening or afternoon, Jagannath Millet Hub is witnessing a huge rush of chai lovers, especially for finger millet tea. In short, Jagannath is raking in a mullah by selling finger millet tea.

That’s not all. Jagannath also prepares various snacks like mixture, ganthia, biscuit, cake, mudki, idli and soup from finger millet. 

For last seven years, Jagannath and his wife CH Sumitra have been preparing snacks and tea out of finger millet for the last seven years. They undertook training on different snacks and tea recipes in Bangalore and Chennai following which they started making tea and snacks in Koraput market and selling them.

“There is enough evidence that junk food affects memory, results in obesity, and ruins psychological well-being. On the other hand, finger millet is considered one of the most nutritious cereals. It contains protein, carbohydrates, fiber and minerals. Of all the cereals and millets, finger millet has the highest amount of calcium.   Consuming finger millet in daily menu will work wonder for diabetic, blood pressure patients. Jagannath Millet Hub has become our favourite eating zone for providing healthy food, said Jeypre resident Ajit Kumar Mishra.
