White tigress Bijaya dies at Nandankanan Zoological Park

A 12-year-old white tigress died while undergoing treatment at the Nandankanan Zoological Park on Saturday.

'Bijaya', which was one of the major attractions at the zoological park, was unwell since October 9.

A team of four doctors from Odisha University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT) was looking after the big cat and she was shifted to a special cell on October 14 after her health condition deteriorated.

Previously, the tigress had developed health issues after giving birth to three cubs and recovered after a long treatment procedure.

With Bijaya's death, the number of big cats at Nandankanan came down to 25.
