A day after BJP-led NDA named Draupadi Murmu from Odisha as its candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections, the woman tribal leader on Wednesday visited several temples in Rairangpur of Mayurbhanj district and paid obeisance.

Murmu visited Lord Jagannath, Hanuman and Shiv temples at Rairangpur and offered prayers today morning. She also swept the premises of Purnandeswar Shiv temple before offering prayers.

Draupadi has been provided Z plus security from Tuesday following her nomination as the Presidential candidate.

“All the members of Prajapita Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalayas across the globe are happy over her selection. She is a regular meditator. We all pray for her,” said a Rajayoga teacher.

Here's a look at Draupadi Murmu's political journey

“We are so happy that we couldn’t sleep last night after getting the news of her selection as a Presidential candidate. She is the pride of Rairangpur,” said a local resident.

The BJP chose Draupadi as its candidate for the post of President against Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha. If Murmu becomes the successor of incumbent Ram Nath Kovind, she will be the first Odia to hold the topmost constitutional post and will become the 15th President of India.

Denizens of Mayurbhanj are on the blue moon over the development.

“It’s a proud moment for Mayurbhanj. NDA has given priority to Mayurbhanj again. After my induction as a Union minister, selecting Murmu for the highest constitutional post of the country shows the priority of NDA government. We all should cherish the great moment as Odias and as the denizens of Mayurbhanj,” said Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Bishweswar Tudu.

Draupadi was the first woman governor of Jharkhand, and thus became the first woman and tribal leader of Odisha to be the governor of an Indian State. Now, she is living in her village in Rairangpur.

Expressing pleasure over her selection as an NDA candidate for election into the highest office of the country her daughter Itishree Murmu said, “We all are proud for her selection in the race for presidential election. Her hard work, dedication and selfless service to the people have paid off,” said Itishree.

Meanwhile, Rairangpur MLA Naba Charan Majhi said Draupadi has a special liking for Mayubhanj and after her elevation to the top post the district will be immensely helped in terms of development.

“Draupadi has been elevated to various constitutional posts like block vice-chairman, MLA, Minister and Governor with the blessing from the people of Mayurbhanj soil. Now, she has been nominated as a Presidential candidate. The people of Mayurbhanj are ecstatic over the development,” said Majhi.
