The injured student, Firdos Fatima, is a first year MBBS student of the medical college. Firdos, who hails from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, was staying in Savitri Ladies' Hostel-3.

Though the exact circumstances leading to her fall is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that she deliberately jumped off the terrace of her hostel building.

According to sources, the incident took place at around 1 am on Wednesday. The hostel inmates woke up to a loud noise and found Firdos lying on the ground and wreathing in pain. She was immediately rushed to the hospital.

As per reports, Firdos’ roommate had gone to her village and she was all by herself in the room when the incident took place.

Meanwhile, the Burla police visited the hospital and launched a probe into the matter.

Dean, VIMSAR Jayashree Dora said the girl student suffered multiple fractures and admitted to the orthopaedic ward.

“She is now under treatment in the ICU of orthopaedic department and her health condition is stable. She has suffered multiple bone fractures. We have intimated her parents. The exact reason behind the incident can be known only after holding discussion with her family members,” Dora told OTV over phone.
