The attached movable property of the Dean’s office in Veer Surendra Sai Institute Of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) was released on Monday after the university authorities reinstated three sacked contractual staff as per the order of the Orissa High Court.

Moreover, the contractual employees – Sambhunath Sahu (former attendant), Rebati Kanta Kalet (former sweeper) and Khirod Kumar Sahoo (former gatekeeper) were also paid an amount of Rs 50,000 each by the authorities as an interim compensation.

The property was freed after the High Court ordered the authorities, who had filed a writ petition in the High Court challenging the decision to attach the property to compensate the retrenched employees, to reinstate the employees first.

However, their present re-engagement is purely temporary in nature and subject to the final outcome of the writ petition pending before the Orissa High Court.

Earlier, the movable property of the Dean of VIMSAR was attached by a Sambalpur court in order to execute a decree for monetary compensation on January 21, 2022.

Speaking on the order, the Dean, Professor, Jayashree Dora, said, “We had shut down the office as per the direction of the Sonepur court. However, we moved the High Court challenging the decision and as per the HC order we have opened the office after reinstating the removed employees.”

A total of two pairs of tables and chairs, two sofa sets, 16 computers, 6 wooden tables, one glass table, 41 steel almirahs, 20 wooden almirahs, seven printers, three copiers, official car (OD 15 H 0833), and two government buses had been attached by the court.

The senior division court in Sonepur had issued the decree while hearing an old case pertaining to disengagement of 27 contractual employees of VIMSAR in 2007.
