Amid growing protest over suicide of a girl student of BJB Autonomous College in Bhubaneswar, another student of a music school-cum-educational institution in the city has reportedly gone missing.

Subhasini Mallick, a Plus 3 first year student of Odissi department of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, is said to be missing since Friday (July 1). The girl’s father has lodged a complaint at the Capital police station in this regard.

The complainant blamed the superintendent of the hostel where Subhasini was staying.

“I talked to my daughter for the last time on Friday. I told her that I would come to Bhubaneswar on Monday as my elder daughter was to appear for the OJEE examination. I also told her that I would bring medicines for her as she was sick,” the father of the girl said.

“However, when I sent my brother-in-law to the hostel to see her, she was missing,” he added.

Interestingly, the hostel register mentioned that her maternal uncle took her from the hostel.

The hostel authorities alleged that the girl left the hostel on the pretext of attending class. She put forged signature of her maternal uncle in the register and did not return.

The police are inquiring into the case.

Bishnupriya Mishra, hostel matron said, “Friday was a holiday. On Saturday, she left the hostel for college and did not return. After we failed to trace her, we informed her local guardian about the matter on Sunday.”

It can be mentioned here that Ruchika Mohanty, a Plus 3 girl student of BJB College, recently died by suicide. She left a suicide note in which she alleged that ragging and harassment by three senior girls drove her to take the extreme step.

While the parents of the deceased have been protesting outside the college demanding a CBI probe into case, the issue has also rocked the ongoing monsoon session of the State Assembly.
