The Odisha Assembly on Wednesday witnessed adjournments after Opposition parties -- Congress and BJP -- created a ruckus over the infamous slapping of a tribal woman by Chitrakonda SDPO Anshuman Dwivedi. Congress raised the issue in the House today and created a ruckus.

Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati demanded a magistrate-level probe into the incident. He also demanded immediate suspension of the accused SDPO.

On the other hand, MLA Santosh Singh Saluja demanded a CBI probe while MLA Narasingha Mishra demanded a judicial probe into the incident. The BJP also echoed the demands of the Congress.

“We demand a judiciary inquiry into the incident. We also demand a probe by a House Committee. The BJP will not rest until necessary action is taken in this regard,” said Mohan Majhi, member of BJP.

Meanwhile, Jagannath Saraka, Minister of State of Scheduled Caste and Schedule Tribe development, Minorities and Backward classes welfare condemned the heinous incident and assured of strict action as per law against the SDPO.

Commenting on the issue, he said, “This is indeed a sad incident. But, we have to probe into the circumstances that led to such heinous incident. Action will be taken after the probe.”

Meanwhile, MoS (Home) Tusharkanti Behera informed Crime Branch IG to take charge of probe into the incident.

Notably, the SDPO had assaulted a tribal woman over Ganja smuggling on June 7 this year. A minor girl, a pregnant woman and an elderly person had also been assaulted by the SDPO, reports said.
