In an unusual way of protest, members of the Cuttack District Congress Committee on Wednesday gifted a bathroom door to CMC Mayor Subhash Chandra Singh after he observed that he could not afford to fix a door in his bathroom when questioned on different development works for various wards.

Singh had made the statement on Tuesday during a CMC council meeting related to upcoming Durga Puja. Members of the Opposition entered the meeting room to draw the attention of Singh and describe the plight of their respective wards.

When they questioned Singh on his promise of development works for various wards as discussed in previous meetings, he got furious and said his bathroom door had broken and he couldn’t even fix that.

Soon after his statement went viral, members of the Congress Committee today bought a bathroom door and handed it over to CMC Commissioner to be gifted to Singh. A team led by Cuttack Zilla Congress Committee President Manas Choudhury met the CMC Commissioner and handed over the door and requested him to give it to Singh.

Manas Choudhury, President of Cuttack District Congress Committee said, “What will be the situation, if he goes to the bathroom without a door. His situation is similar to what he has made of JICA project. He says he cannot afford a door. So, we have brought a door for him and will also give Rs 500 for fitting charges.”

“If a Mayor cannot fix a door on his bathroom, then what work will he do for the CMC. I think, maybe he is not given permission by  the CMC Commissioner or from the third floor. He has no power of his own, until order comes from third floor. So, we have decided to gift him a bathroom door,” he added.

A day back, BJP corporators created a ruckus at the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) council meeting by barging into the meeting hall and showing black flags to CMC Mayor Subhash Singh.
