Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest Ashwini Choubey named a lion cub and tiger cub at Nandankanan Zoo on Sunday.

Both the cubs were born in March earlier this year. While the lion cub has been christened as Kamini, the tiger cub has been named as Himansi.

Meanwhile, Choubey heaped praise on caretakers Hemant and Prashant for nurturing both the cubs like their mothers.

The minister also promised to give rewards to both the caretakers.

After visiting Nandankanan, Choubey lauded the zoo authorities for their work and termed the park a haven for the animals.

The minister also visited the hospital meant for the animals inside the zoo and hailed the facility. He witnessed the treatment of cheetah named Manju. Choubey also saw one-year-old lion cub Barsha and took a stroll at the Pangolin training center.

As per reports, Choubey has assured the zoo authorities to extend all sorts of help in terms of grants and monetary assistance to convert the zoo into a world-class facility.

“Mothers of both the cubs were not nurtured by the lion and tiger cubs. They have been nurtured well by Hemant and Prashant. Both the caretakers have showered their love on the cubs and their effort is praiseworthy. I am happy to name both the cubs,” said Choubey.
