Two girls students who were allegedly abducted by a tuition teacher from Badagada area Bhubaneswar were rescued from Ainthapali area of Sambalpur, police said on Wednesday. 

The police were tipped off about the presence of the accused in Ainthapali area and subsequently, a raid was conducted. While the accused was detained and the two girls were rescued.   

“The two minor girls were rescued from a place under Ainthapali police limits and shifted to a Sakhi centre. The accused has also been detained. A police team from Bhubaneswar will be travelling to Sambalpur and the accused will be handed over to the team,” said Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar.

According to sources, the teacher, identified as Gopalkrushna Badatiya, allegedly eloped with the two minor students on Sunday when the parents of the girls were not at home. 

The parents of the two students had grown suspicious of Badatiya's conduct when they found the tutor was spending more time with the girls on the pretext of teaching them, sources said adding that the teacher had threatened the parents when they opposed his unusual behaviour.

A note was also recovered from the house, where the girls used to take tuitions, which reads that they would return after eight days, sources added.
