An unusual spectacle greeted people in Bhawanipatna Friday when they saw the local Reserve Police ground decked up for a marriage. It was a marriage of two tender hearts who shunned violence to dip themselves in heavenly love.

It is said, love conquers all. And the marriage of hardcore Maoist couple, Kalam Dei and Ramdas after their surrender, has proved the saying right. And the gleaming couple could not thank Kalahandi police enough which was instrumental in solemnizing the knot.

As per reports, the groom, Ramdas, was a hardcore Maoist who operated in the Chhattisgarh division of the ultras for almost a decade before falling for Kalam Dei, a lass from Kalahandi, who had also taken up arms to fight the establishment influenced by the Maoist ideology.

The lovelorn couple first met at a surrender camp organized by the Kalahandi police where they both came to give up violence and join the mainstream in 2019. Their eyes met, sparks flew and it was a love at first sight. They courted for three years before deciding to take the next step.

Kalahandi SP, Saravana Vivek M said, “I was more than happy after getting to know that they have actually decided to marry. And as they were staying at our rehabilitation camp after surrender, I felt, we should celebrate the union in a proper manner.”

The Reserve Police Ground which generally hosts police officials in many functions and programmes, hosted the senior officials like the SP, DIG Rajesh Pandit, Commandant Biplab Sarkar and the IICs of all the police stations in the district Friday to bless the newlyweds. A feast was thrown for the invitees which included some locals too.

Speaking to reporters, Ramdas said, “I am really happy that the police have arranged all this, a proper wedding. I sought their blessings and they obliged.”

“I decided to marry Ramdas recently and I thank the police for honoring our decision. This is a dream wedding which was actualized on the ground today. I am happy,” said a blushing Kalam Dei who could not hide her joy.

Taking the opportunity, district SP, Saravana Vivek M urged the ultras who have taken up arms, to shun violence and surrender at the police in order to avail government schemes in the main stream.
