In a bizarre incident, the authorities of Mahamayee Mahila Mahavidyalaya in Berhampur have reportedly put a blanket ban on the use of smart phones inside the college premises. Students are no longer allowed to take or use mobile phones inside the college varsity.

The authorities are reportedly checking the bags of the students before letting them inside the college premises. Nothing has been confirmed if the ban also applies to the teaching faculty. The news has spread outrage among students who condemned the ‘ridiculous’ and ‘old-age thinking’ of the college management.

Irate students staged protest and demanded the immediate withdrawal of the ban.

On the other hand, the College Principal observed that a large number of students were spending their time on mobile phones during college hours. Hence in order to ensure good result and the better future of the students, we have taken the decision, the principal added.

“A large number of students are spending their time on mobile phones during college hours. They are relaxing and not focusing on the class. So, we have put a blanket ban to ensure good result and better future of the students,” the College Principal S. Narayan Rao said.

On the other hand, the angry students warned to stage a mass demonstration if the ban was not lifted soon.
