Even as the controversy around chaining of a journalist by police in Balasore district is yet to die down, another report of alleged police atrocity has surfaced in the State.

In the latest instance that came to fore in the Millennium City Cuttack, a 12-year-old boy was allegedly subjected to third degree torture at SCB Medical police outpost.

Arrested on charges of mobile theft by cops of the outpost last Friday, the underage boy was reportedly kept in the custody for three days.

Based on the allegations of custodial torture, the Childline members rescued the boy and took him into their protection.

The minor told the Childline members that the police personnel assaulted him with a pipe.

The boy who will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) tomorrow alleged, “The police personnel kept me in the cell for three days for stealing mobile. They hit me on leg, hands and thigh with pipe."

Childline member Narayan Shukla has clarified that if the boy gives his statement before the CWC confirming police excess, FIR will be lodged against the police.

“We received complaint that a minor boy was detained for three days at the police outpost. When we reached the outpost, we found the boy inside the cell,” Shukla said.

“When we asked, the outpost in-charge said that the boy was kept in the cell since he was not admitting to his crime. The police personnel brought him out when we said there is no provision to keep any minor in custody,” he added.

On the other hand, the reaction of the authorities of the SCB Medical outpost could not be obtained.
