BJP National spokesperson Sambit Patra on Sunday targeted the ruling BJD government in Odisha by accusing it of not taking action against Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev who is now in the eye of controversy after ramming his car into a crowd in Khordha’s Banpur area on Saturday.

Addressing a presser in Bhubaneswar, Patra alleged that Jagdev is a habitual offender and his recent act is no less than a conspiracy to murder democracy. Around 22 people sustained multiple injuries in the incident.

According to Patra, the chairperson elections were underway when the incident occurred.

“The MLA was trying to disrupt the entire democratic process by affecting the polls. His act was purely out of frustration and he tried to kill women activists by driving car over them. It was nothing but an attempt to murder democracy,” he said.

Condemning the incident, the senior BJP leader alleged that the Chilika MLA was being tagged as ‘Baahubali MLA’ due to his arrogant behaviour and acts and was in news for thrashing a dalit youth.

“Why was Prashant Jagdev not expelled from BJD despite being involved in several kinds of violence? He was given all due importance in the party and also made to contest elections again,” questioned Patra.

Patra also accused the BJD of maintaining double-standards and termed Prashant Jagdev’s suspension a mere drama.

“Jagdev’s suspension was nothing but a drama as he had been attending political meetings and campaigns of BJD during the recent elections in the State. We want to ask why the BJD did not expel Jagdev. We demand stern action against him,” Patra added.

On the other hand, BJD MP Munna Khan said, “BJD spokesperson has already clarified party’s stand yesterday. Our leader and party doesn’t give encourage any kind of violence.”
