The children of Puri Jagannath temple servitors will soon have a special school-Srimandir Gurukul as a proposal in this regard was passed in the temple managing committee meeting on Saturday.

The meeting, presided over by Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, was held at Srimandir Bhakta Niwas.

Immediately after the meeting, SJTA Chief Administrator Veer Vikram Yadav, while briefing journalists, said that the decision to set up Srimandir Adarsha Gurukul Society taken at a subcommittee meeting was approved in the Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee’s meeting.

“Soon, steps would be taken for the society’s registration,” said Yadav.

Notably, the society will run the school. For this, the Supreme Court has already provided some money.

The meeting also discussed about the free of cost houses for the servitors. “We have identified two locations where the proposed houses will come up,” said Yadav.

Harichandi Sahi and Mati Mandap Sahi are the two locations earmarked for houses for servitors. The Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation Limited (OBCC) will prepare the design of these dwelling complexes.

However, the meeting did not discuss about the Rath Yatra and Snana Yatra. Yadav said the two topics would be discussed in the next meeting.
