At least six Maoists were killed in an encounter that broke out at Kothagudem on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border during a combing operation of the security forces. 

According to initial reports, the gunfight took place between Telengana Grey Hounds and the rebels in a forest area in the border area of Telangana and Chhattisgarh. 

Six bodies were recovered from the spot after the encounter. Besides, a huge cache of arms and ammunition were also found.  

Kothagudem Superintendent of Police Sunil Dutt was part of the operation. The search operation has been intensified in the area after the encounter. 

"It's a joint operation of Telangana Police, Chhattisgarh Police and CRPF," Dutt told news agency ANI.
