A junior engineer had to pay for laughing in front of senior officials during a flood review meeting in Baliapal block of Balasore district. The junior engineer has been served with show-cause notice.

However, the junior engineer Mihir Panda, said he would fight against the injustice meted out to him.

“At the flood review meeting, I was asked as to how many people have been provided with food. As per the message I had earlier received from someone, it was around 850. But I personally counted it as 40-50. So I laughed spontaneously.  At the meeting, block development officer, chief executive officer of DRDA Rabindra Kumar Sahu and other officers were present. My accidental act might have not gone down well with the chief executive officer,” said Panda.

Panda further said he was asked to go out of the meeting hall. "The very next moment, I received a letter wherein I was accused of coming to the meeting, consuming alcohol. As per the direction of the PD DRDA, BDO Deepak Kumar Das issued the show cause notice to me. However, the letter is not with me at present as the block administration has already taken it away from me and hidden it," claimed Panda.

"I am now being pressurised to put an end to the issue. But I will continue to fight against the injustice meted out to me even at the cost of my service," added Panda
