The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been relentless in cornering the Odisha government over allegations of sexual harassment on the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA from Jharigaon, Prakash Majhi.

State General Secretary of the Saffron party, Lekhashree Samantsinghar slammed the State government over the issue of women safety while addressing a press conference in the State capital Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

She demanded Majhi’s immediate arrest before he gets time to erase all the evidence against him.

Addressing the presser Samantsinghar said, “Our primary demand is to produce the victim in court and provide her with protection. The people of Odisha need to know her current situation and whereabouts.”

Targeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Samantsinghar said, “Naveen Patnaik is responsible for the Home department and law and order situation. He should walk the talk.”

“Patnaik should act against the accused and create an example instead of protecting his legislator all the way,” she demanded.

Not only the BJP but the Congress has also upped the ante against the State government demanding Majhi’s arrest.

Speaking to the reporters, Congress MLA, Dasarathi Gamang said, “Majhi should be arrested and duly questioned to reveal the truth.”

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) chief, Niranjan Patnaik took to Twitter to target the Odisha government over the issue. “MLA Prakash Majhi has sexually exploited a woman and threatened to kill her. The Congress party will not sit idle until the victim gets justice.

The opposition BJP and Congress in Odisha have been demanding the immediate arrest of BJD leader and Jharigaon MLA Prakash Majhi after a woman lodged a complaint at the Khandagiri police station in Bhubaneswar accusing him of sexually harassing her.
