  • A man along with his family entered the security corridor in a vehicle and paid obeisance to Lord Jagannath from near the Arun Stambh.

A vehicle reportedly broke through the security cordon and approached the Arun Stambh in front of Lord Jagannath Temple on Tuesday, raising serious questions on the security arrangements at the 12th century shrine.

A man along with his family entered the security corridor in a vehicle and paid obeisance to Lord Jagannath from near the Arun Stambh.

At present, parking or movement of vehicles in front of the Arun Stambh is prohibited.

According to sources, the visitor reached near the Arun Stambh in the four-wheeler along with a woman and two children and parked the vehicle there and offered prayers.

As it was raining, a policeman was seen approaching them holding an umbrella. After a brief discussion, the man along with others got into the vehicle and drove off.

Meanwhile, questions are being raised asto why did the policeman not take any action against the visitor for entering the prohibited zone in violation of the prohibitory orders.

Puri Superintendent of Police Kanwar Vishal Singh said a probe will be conducted into the incident.

“We are inquiring into the incident to ascertain if there was any security lapses. Questioning is underway to identify the person. Preliminary inquiry revealed that due to rain, the road was blocked so they reached there. It is not a big issue and we looking into details,” Singh said.
