In a bizarre incident, a woman was allegedly bitten on three fingers by her daughter-in-law following their altercation over television volume.

According to reports, the incident took place in Vadvali area of Ambernath (East) in Thane, Mumbai, on September 5.

Reportedly, the woman was chanting mantras and doing puja on Monday night. But she was unable to do it calmly as her daughter-in-law was watching television at a loud volume at that time.

So, she asked her daughter-in-law to reduce the volume. But the latter refused to do so. Subsequently, the annoyed mother-in-law switched off the TV, leading to a fight between them.

Later, in a fit of rage, she bit off three fingers of the right hand of her mother-in-law, leaving her seriously injured.

On being informed, police registered a case against the daughter-in-law and sent the woman for medical treatment.

No arrest has been made yet in the case, informed Ashok Bhagat, senior police inspector of Shivaji Nagar police station.

"The matter is sub-judice. It seems to be a family dispute matter. We haven't arrested the daughter-in-law yet, " said Bhagat.

During the argument between the duo, the woman's son also reportedly tried to settle the fight. But the daughter-in-law abused her husband and showered him with punches, added Bhagat.

Reportedly, it is the second marriage for the woman's son while for her daughter-in-law, it is the third marriage.

Bhagat said there is a dispute in the family for a long time and a divorce case between the woman's son and her daughter-in-law is also going on in court.
