With Russia continuing its all-out assault on Ukraine for the second consecutive day, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday sought the Government of India’s help in evacuation of students and labourers from Odisha who are now stranded in the war-ravaged Ukraine.

Patnaik today spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and requested him for safe evacuation of stranded Odia students and labourers from Ukraine.

In a release, the Chief Minister’s Office said that the Union Home Minister has assured Naveen that the Government of India is in touch with the Ukrainian government and working to bring back the students and labourers from Ukraine at the earliest.

The development assumes much significance as scores of students and others from different parts of Odisha are now stranded in Ukraine. Their families back home had earlier appealed urgent steps from the Odisha government as well as the Centre for the safe evacuation of their loved ones.
