Smart City Rourkela is likely to witness massive waterlogging problems during monsoon due to the unresolved drainage issues in the region.

All the 40 wards in Rourkela are reportedly facing drainage issues since long and hence, the local administration must resolve the problems soon, said locals.

There are a total of 12 main drains along with over 100 small and big drains in the city. As per reports, works of majority of the drains are either underway or left halfway.

"Our entire basti (slum) will get submerged if it rains now. Drain work is yet to be completed in our region," said a local, Srimant Mishra.

Some locals also alleged that the local civic body never manages to complete the work on time due to lack of proper planning and coordination.

However, RSC Commissioner said that works of drains are underway and it will be completed soon. 

"We are looking into the matter and our advance work is on to tackle the issue. Besides, drain desilting work is underway. Even our efforts are on to ensure no waterlogging in the areas which often face such issues," said
