Vehicular movement on Binika-Barpali road came to a grinding halt after locals staged a road blockade protesting the death of a youth in an accident yesterday.

The protestors blocked the road at College Square by keeping the body of the deceased and burning tyres since last evening. They demanded compensation for the bereaved family and action against the concerned driver.

As per sources, the youth, who worked in a rice mill, was on his way back home yesterday evening when he was hit by a biker near Danipali Square under Binika police limits. He suffered critical head injuries and was rushed to a hospital. However, the doctor declared him dead.

"The death of the innocent youth has angered all of us. Therefore, we have come forward and staged a road blockade. We will continue our agitation until the accused is nabbed," said a protestor.

"The youth was returning from work when he was hit by a vehicle leading to his death. We will block the road until our demands are fulfilled," said another protestor.

Meanwhile, the ADM, Sub-collector, IIC and SDPO visited the spot in the morning and held discussion with the protestors. The officials assured compensation to the deceased's family from Red Cross fund and under other schemes following which the blockade was withdrawn.
