At least five people were killed while equal number of persons injured in separate incidents of wall collapse following incessant rainfall across Odisha on Friday.

The heavy rainfall has been triggered by the deep depression formed over northeast and adjoining areas of east-central Bay of Bengal.

In Mayurbhanj district, two sisters lost their lives in wall collapse at Bholabeda village under Bisoi block. Their parents were also critically injured.

As per reports, the family members of Anil Giri were fast asleep in their house on Friday night when one of the walls of their house collapsed due to incessant rain and fell on them. While both the sisters died after being trapped under the debris of the wall, their parents were rescued by local people.

Anil and his wife were critically injured in the process. They were rushed to Rairangpur hospital immediately and are currently undergoing treatment there.

In another incident, a woman died due to wall collapse at Tikarapada village in Keonjhar. Her husband was critically injured. He is currently being treated at a local hospital.

Meanwhile, one student died while two others sustained critical injuries when a school wall collapsed on them at Madhupura village under Baliapala block in Balasore district.

Another nine-year-old boy died after bathroom wall collapsed on him at Nuasahi of PHD Colony in Koraput district.
