In an unfortunate incident, at least two children of a family were killed after the wall of their house collapsed at Raidiha village under Udala block in Mayurbhanj district on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as 10-year-old girl Jahsoda Singh and her six-year-old brother Jyoti Shankar Singh.

As per sources, the family members of Tulashi Singh were fast asleep inside their house when one of its walls collapsed. Both the children got trapped under the debris of the wall and succumbed. Fortunately, mother Tulashi and her younger son had a miraculous escape. Later, they were rescued by the villagers.

As per the villagers, some portion of the wall got wet due to the incessant rain a few days earlier leading to the collapse.

“The wall of our thatched house collapsed at around 10 pm. I had never thought that the wall would crumble in this manner. Somehow, I was able to rescue my younger son,” said a crestfallen Tulashi.

Last week, at least five people were killed and an equal number of persons injured in separate incidents of wall collapse following incessant rainfall across Odisha.
