In view of the surge in festive demand, the Indian Railways has decided to run 179 special train services (in pairs) during the ongoing festive season.

The special trains will run till Chhath Puja this year to meet the increase in demand. These trains will reportedly connect major destinations on routes such like Delhi- Patna, Delhi- Bhagalpur, Delhi-Saharsa and Delhi-Muzaffarpur among others.

The Indian Railways will run a total of 2269 trips of the 179 special trains (in pairs) till Chhath Puja for the convenience of commuters and crowd management, said the Ministry of Railways.

The ministry further said that crowd controlling measures like forming queues at the terminus stations for orderly entry of passengers in unreserved coaches under the supervision of RPF staff will be ensured.

Besides, additional RPF personnel will be deployed at major railway stations to ensure security of passengers.

"Officers are deployed on Emergency Duty at major stations to ensure smooth running of trains. Staff are deployed in various sections to attend any disruption of train service on priority," the ministry added.

Earlier, to address the demand of passengers and to clear additional rush in regular trains, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) had decided to run special trains and extend frequency of few special trains from and through its jurisdiction.
