Palpable tension prevailed at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after a second year MBBS student accused a senior resident of ragging him inside the campus.

As per the allegation, the student who was a boarder of the college hostel was subjected to ragging by the senior mate on the night of May 7.

Soon after, a group of MBBS students filed a complaint at the Dean’s office following which an FIR was lodged at Baidyanathpur police station.

Berhampur SP, Saravana Vivek said a case has been registered following a complaint by the Dean of the medical college.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the second year students including the boy were organizing an informal cultural event in the campus. However, a senior resident doctor ragged him.

“We have recorded the statements of the Dean and the complainant and have launched a probe in this connection,” he added.

As per the police, they have also collected some video evidence and a notice has been issued to the accused.

“We will take appropriate action against the accused as per the law,” the SP said.

It is pertinent to mention here that a first-year MBBS student of Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir had died after reportedly falling off the hostel roof on April 22.

A close relative of the deceased MBBS student levelled ragging allegations. The uncle of the deceased said that their ward was calling home for the past four days to narrate the ordeal.
