A day after three students were washed away in sea near Puri, body of one of the students who was missing following the mishap has been recovered from beach near Chakratirtha road.

According to sources, three students from Aeronautical Institute in Kolkata who had come to Bhubaneswar to appear an examination were bathing in the sea near the Lighthouse when they were swept away by a high tide.

Locals and lifeguards wasted little time in rescuing two of them from jaws of death while one could not be traced. The two students recovered in critical condition were Rakesh Kumar Singh, a resident of Bhadrak district, and the other, Om Prakash Yadav, a native from Angul in Odisha.

The third student, a native of West Bengal and identified as Arbaaj Qadir, who was missing since the mishap was fished out by lifeguards after several hours of search operation from Pink house on Chakratirtha road this morning.

His body has been sent for post-mortem. Police are trying to contact his family when the last reports were filed in.

Puri beach which is one of the top tourist attractions in the pilgrim city attracts lakhs of people from all over the world every year. Despite awareness and strict vigil, drowning mishaps often occur in the sea beach due to various reasons like carelessness and deepwater bathing.
