The locals of NDA’s Presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu performed a puja at her village in Uparabeda under Mayurbhanj’s Kusumi block on Wednesday praying for her win in the ensuing elections.

A predominantly Santali tribal population of the village performed the puja at the presiding deity and at the place of worship also called ‘Jahira’ in local parlance.

According to sources, the locals congregated at the village priest’s (Dehury) house in the morning and invited him to perform the puja. Following the invitation, the Dehury was dressed up in traditional attire and went to the Jahira to perform puja.

A villager of Uparabeda, Khelaram Hansda said, “It is a matter of pride for us that Draupadi Murmu has been nominated by Prime Minister Modi to contest elections for President. We really want her to win. So we performed the puja today praying her win.”

Another local, Chudamani Hansda said, “She (Draupadi Murmu) is a good human being. I am sure, if she wins, she will not only extend help to her village but she will serve the whole Nation as well.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the election for the President of India will be held on July 18 and the counting will take place in New Delhi on July 21. It is worth mentioning here that the tenure of the current President of India Ram Nath Kovind is coming to an end on July 24.

Several major opposition parties, including the Congress, the NCP, and the TMC, fielded former Union minister Yashwant Sinha as their candidate for the upcoming presidential poll against Murmu.
