President Draupadi Murmu on Monday felicitated 47 teachers selected from across the nation at an event organized on the occasion of Teachers’ Day at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

Among the felicitated teachers was Ishwar Chandra Nayak from Odisha. He presently serves at Kanapur Primary School under Sagada Panchayat of Nimapara area.

On this occasion, President Murmu addressed the gathering. “There is a famous saying that the mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires. I would like to say that an ideal teacher has all these four qualities. Such ideal teachers give shape to students’ lives and in true sense build the nation,” she said.

Every year, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the nation’s top teachers selected through a strict, open and online three-stage selection procedure are felicitated at a function hosted by the Ministry of Education at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.

The day, September 5, is obsessive nationwide in honour of former President Dr S Radhakrishnan, who served as India’s second President.

Notably, Teachers’ Day was first celebrated in 1962.
