A five months pregnant woman suffered miscarriage after a group of miscreants allegedly assaulted her and her husband in a village in Nayagarh district of Odisha on Sunday.

The victims have been identified as Narmada Behera and Ayodhya Behera.

Sources said the brutal incident occurred at Badelo village under Fategarh police station of the district. According to reports, the miscreants, led by one Pathani Jena, attacked Ayodhya while he was returning home. The attack was prompted by some previous enmity between Ayodhya and Pathani. While the miscreants were assaulting Ayodhya, Narmada intervened in a bid to save her husband from the merciless thrashing.  However, the attackers were relentless and turned towards Narmada. 

As per reports, Narmada was pushed to the ground by the miscreants who kicked her on the abdomen multiple times. Narmada suffered serious injuries and lost her child in the process.

The couple later lodged a complaint with the Fategarh police station against Jena.

In the complaint, Narmada has stated that she was kicked dozens of times on the stomach intentionally that led to the death of the foetus.

She was initially taken to the primary health centre for treatment and later shifted to the community health centre.

Meanwhile, police have launched a hunt to nab the accused who are absconding following the incident. Till the last report, one of the miscreants has been arrested by police.

Meanwhile, the police have also allegedly filed a complaint made by the attackers against the couple.
