In an unfortunate incident, a Plus II student of Sambalpur GM College hanged himself to death at his house at Dhipapada village under Burla police limits in Sambalpur district on Thursday. While no exact reason for his death was known immediately, family members said he took the extreme step after securing only 49% in his Plus II examination result which was announced yesterday

The deceased has been identified as Rohan Gurung, 18. According to sources, Guru hanged himself using a rope in a pole near his house late Wednesday evening. Family members found him hanging and rushed to Burla-based VIMSAR hospital. However, doctors at the hospital brought him declared dead upon arrival. 

A case has been registered in this connection and the body was sent for post-mortem. 

'My name is Johan. My brother was studying very hard. But, he was broken after he just secured 49% in Plus II. So, he took the extreme step. We searched for him when he did not come home late Wednesday night. Later, we found him hanging near our house," said an inconsolable Johan Gurung, brother of the deceased. 

Police said a probe is on.
