The newly elected Block Chairman of Pattamundai Panchayat Samiti in Kendrapara district lodged a complaint at the Chaudakulat Police outpost on Tuesday alleging that the sons of his rival candidate, who lost the election, took him at gunpoint and threatened to kill him.

As per the FIR filed by Pradyumna Kumar Samantray, the Block Chairman, he had visited the Alapua Gram Panchayat to offer puja at a local temple with Rajnagar MLA, Dhruva Sahoo and two other supporters on Tuesday morning. On the way, the sons of his political rival, Annapurna Mallik, intercepted his vehicle near Dandisahi square.

Samantray further alleged that one of them pulled him out of his vehicle and trained a gun at him. He then threatened to kill him right there.

“Mallik’s son said if he kills me right there, a by-poll will be announced and then his mother will win without a contest,” stated Samantray in the FIR.

Dandisahi square is a busy marketplace. Following the commotion, some locals rushed to the spot and rescued Samantray.

Samantray has also alleged that the miscreants manhandled the MLA and his supporters who accompanied him in the vehicle.

However, Annapurna Mallik feigned ignorance about the incident and said, “I have no idea what happened out there. I am at my house since yesterday. My sons are out and they have not returned yet.”

Demanding immediate action against the miscreants, Samantray staged a dharna in front of the Chaudakulat Police Out-Post on Tuesday.
