In what would boost the investigation of crimes in the State, the Odisha police have posted as many as 1016 officers of Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) rank in different districts.

These police personnel had successfully completed in-service written examination and training before they were posted in different districts and other organisations on September 15, 2021. 

According to a press note issued by the State police headquarters, the 1016 personnel are among 1092 constables, havildars, lance naiks who were promoted to the rank of ASI in December 2020 following the completion of the prescribed selection process. 

“In December 2020, Odisha Police published promotion select list for 1092 Constables/Havildars/Lance Naiks to the rank of ASI after prescribed selection process, which comprises written examination as well as scrutiny of their service records,” the press note read. 

“These officiating ASIs underwent 4 months institutional training and two months Police Station attachment. The institutional training was at six different training institutes of Odisha Police i.e. AET, Koraput, PTS, Nayagarh, BTI Burla, UP & TTI, Bhubaneswar, PTC Angul and PTI Byree,” it added.  

The personnel became eligible to conduct crime investigation after appearing for the written examination at the end of their training. 

“1016 such officers (ASIs), who have completed their Police Station attachment as well as passed the end of training written examination, were posted to different districts and other organisations on September 15, 2021,” the press note stated.  

“Induction of such large number of investigating officers will definitely help to improve our service to people,” it added.
