With the arrest of Biranchi Narayan Sahoo, the millionaire Private Secretary to a member of the Odisha Staff selection Commission (OSSC), aspirants who have been waiting since long to get government jobs through the recruiting agency have alleged that mass corruption blocked their job prospects.

An aspirant, Chinmaya Rout who appeared for the position of Junior Assistant in 2010 said, “Candidates who secured lesser marks than me got the job while I remained waiting for the same. Following the arrest of Biranchi, I sought answers through RTI queries. The SP said that everything will be clear once Biranchi confesses.”

Meanwhile, a vigilance team arrived at the office of OSSC to investigate the allegations earlier in the day. The team was led by the DSP, Vigilance. The team not only collected information and papers but held discussions with the president and chairperson of OSSC in connection with the probe.

Reacting to the allegations made by job seekers, Nirmal Chandra Mishra, Chairman of OSSC said, “I am glad that people are complaining. If anybody in the Commission is found guilty, he/she will be dealt with according to the government norms.”

Earlier on Monday, the Odisha government sent Sahoo on compulsory retirement following his arrest in a disproportionate assets case.

Sahoo was arrested by the Vigilance on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income two days ago.

The anti-corruption agency had detected property worth over Rs 3.79 crore during simultaneous raids at multiple locations linked to him in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and four other places.

According to sources, Sahoo was to retire in 6 months after completing a service tenure of 26 years when law caught up with him for allegedly amassing the ill-gotten assets.

However, the suspected big players in the pond are yet to be fished out. As the people in the know suspect that there are influential persons behind the corruption nexus and Sahoo was just a conduit.Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Vigilance department takes the probe further deep or concludes with Sahoo only.
