Justice Jaswant Singh, who is currently serving as a Judge of the Orissa High Court, will be the 33rd Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.

Orissa High Court to get new Chief Justice

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended elevation of Justice Jaswant Singh as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. Justice Singh is currently serving as a Judge of the Orissa High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on September 28, also recommended elevation of Justice PB Varale as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey as the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir.

Justice Singh will replace the incumbent Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, S Muralidhar. The Collegium has recommended transfer of Muralidhar as the Chief Justice of Madras High Court.

Muralidhar took oath as the 32nd Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court on January 4, 2021, succeeding Justice Mohammad Rafiq. Muralidhar will be next CJ of Madras. 

The post of Chief Justice of Madras High Court is lying vacant with the retirement of the previous CJ Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari on September 12.

Justice Singh has been serving as a Judge in the Orissa High Court since October 8, 2021. Born on February 23, 1961, at Rohtak, he had his schooling in Oak Grove School, Jharipani, Mussoorie/Model School, Rohtak.  

After graduating in Arts in 1980, he took the degrees of Law and Master of Business Administration from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. He was enrolled as an advocate in 1986 and started practice at district Courts, Sirsa.
