Putting an end to the matter pertaining to land acquisition and police atrocities at Dhinkia village near the proposed JSW project site under Ersama block in Jagatsinghpur district, the Orissa High Court on Thursday disposed of the public interest litigations (PILs) filed in this regard.

According to sources, the State’s apex court has directed the petitioners to submit over 400 affidavits to the Collector, Jagatsinghpur. The Collector will forward the affidavits to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), the HC directed.

With this the ball is now in the court of the MoEFCC which will take action following thorough analysis of the affidavits.

Notably, tension ran high at the proposed JSW project site at Dhinkia during the eviction of betel vineyards by the police on January 14. It was when the villagers confronted with the police force in their bid to save the crops that the latter resorted to lathi charge. Several villagers, including some women, were injured in the scuffle.
