The Orissa High Court on Wednesday ordered jail authorities to repair the toilets of all the jails in the State within 10 days.

Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), the HC warned of stern action against the officials who will fail to repair toilets in the stipulated time and suggested outsourcing maintenance of toilets.

The Court also ordered the District Legal Services Officers to visit jails on April 30 and furnish a report on the same.

The HC also raised concerns over the quality and quantity of food being served to the jail inmates and directed the Department of Prisons to constitute a high-level committee to monitor the same.

The Court further said that introduction of unique system of cooking and serving in line with the Tamil Nadu government can serve the purpose.
