The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Monday discovered an idol of Lord Vishnu, said to be the oldest in Odisha, while unearthing the ruins of another ancient temple buried in the premises of Suka Sari temple in Old Town area of the Temple city of Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, the ASI team stumbled upon the ruins of the ancient temple towards the north-east flanks of the Suka Sari shrine. The ancient structure was found during the excavation of another shrine. The structure is believed to be of 7th century.

The experts assume that the temple was constructed much before the Suka Sari temple and Lord Lingaraj temple which is the biggest and most prominent monument in the area.

The recently unearthed temple has been constructed in the style of Parashurameshwar temple which is around half a kilometer away from the site. The Parashurameshwar temple was built during the period of Sailodbhaba dynasty which ruled many parts of eastern India during 6-8th century with its capital situated at modern Banapur.

Meanwhile, ASI officials said they are confident of finding more such ancient structures from the area during the on-going excavation process.

It is pertinent to mention here that, ruins of another ancient temple was discovered by the ASI experts from the same place last year in October. The ASI team discovered the basement of the ancient structure from the North-East corner of Suka Sari shrine. The experts assume that the ancient structure was built several years before the Suka Sari temple.
