Noted disability rights activist Dr Sruti Mohapatra has left for Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, an African country where she will be participating in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). 

She is participating in the conference as a member of the Commonwealth Disabled People’s Forum (CDPF)’s delegation. 

Dr Mohapatra is scheduled to address the conference, which will start on June 20 and will continue till June 25. The conference will witness an assembly of world’s policy making glitterati.

Dr Mohapatra is presently vice-chairperson of the CDPF. The CDPF, headquartered in London, assists in various projects meant for development of ‘Divyangs’ in member countries. 

Known as a ‘Crusader in a Wheelchair’, Dr Mohapatra is the founder of ‘Swabhiman’ and ‘SHARE’, two NGOs working for the empowerment of Divyangjans in Odisha.  She is also former chairperson of  the Odisha State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights. 

Recently, President Ram Nath Kovind honoured her with the prestigious ‘Nari Shakti Puraskar’ on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
